Series - 1967: Structuur 67
Introduction
The works in this large series were made in 1967 and are on transparent perspex
sheets measuring 100 x 100cm. Perspex provides a perfect smooth
surface for the paint, a kind of car enamel applied with a spray can to
carefully taped-off areas. By keeping the sheets of perspex a few centimeters
away from the wall with the help of blocks and leaving parts of unpainted, the
color shapes seem to float in front of the wall. The designs of the works are
based on a Wetmatige beweging (Systematic Movement) work from 1963,
which is displayed below.
Wetmatige beweging
For the designs in this series, the basic design is rotated, translated,
and/or scaled several times and painted in different colours. The colours are
carefully selected, sometimes with the same saturation and brightness and in
other cases on a gliding scale of brightness and/or saturation. In a number of
works gradients have been used.
